Tamaqua Police are preparing charges against Peter Kranz, 58, of 446 E. Union St., Tamaqua, after a hit-and-run incident on May 3.
Officers were notified of the incident at 8:48 p.m. by a witness, who saw a blue Chrysler Pacifica traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of Clark and Union Streets. The Pacifica turned the corner and struck a parked Kia Spectra, then fled the scene. As the officer was speaking with the witness, the Pacifica came back to the area. The driver, later identified as Kranz, was attempting to park in a space on Columbia Street. There was recent, moderate damage to the front end of the Chrysler.Kranz opened the driver side door and was told to stay in the car. He couldn't provide his license or other information, saying it was in his house. After detecting a strong odor of alcohol, the officer asked Kranz to get put of his car to complete field sobriety tests. Kranz initially refused, saying he is a paraplegic. He was "only drinking because he was out of oxycodone and fentanyl".He did agree to the field sobriety tests, which he failed. He was then taken to Schuylkill Medical center South in Pottsville for blood tests.Charges are pending the results of those tests.
