Man faces charges in gun theft

Providing a meal to a homeless person didn't turn out well for a Tamaqua man on April 22.

Tamaqua police were dispatched to 417 Pine St. for a reported theft and met with the victim, who said his Ruger .38 Special was stolen by Nathaniel P. Shea, 34, formerly of New Ringgold. The victim and his girlfriend met Shea a few days earlier. When the girlfriend saw him on April 22 she invited him back to the house for lunch, feeling compassionate because they believed he was homeless, living in the woods. That was at 11:30 a.m. At 1 p.m., after finishing their meal, the girlfriend left and the victim un-holstered his Ruger and placed it on an end table, next to the couch where he was preparing to take a nap. Shea was still in the home at the time. After waking up from his nap, around 6 p.m., the victim noticed that Shea and the Ruger were both gone.Shea faces charges of theft by unlawful taking.
