A Slatington man faces multiple charges after he tried to have sex with a 15-year-old Nesquehoning girl.
Stephen Jay Dilcher, 37, of 117 Hillcrest Lane, Apartment D32, formerly of West Ridge Street in Nesquehoning, was arrested by Nesquehoning Police Chief Sean Smith following an investigation that began last April.Dilcher is charged with criminal attempt of statutory sexual assault; unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of minors.According to the affidavit, Smith received a report from a 15-year-old girl's mother stating that her daughter was receiving inappropriate text messages through Facebook from Dilcher.The mother provided police with the messages. One of them included Dilcher's picture.The conversations included the girl's age, as well as asking for "sexy pics" and if she wanted to "have fun."He also told the victim that he was 36 at the time of the messages.On March 25, Dilcher arrived at the Nesquehoning police station and Smith read him his rights, as well as provided a written form of his rights. Officer Timothy Wuttke also went over his rights again before proceeding.Dilcher confessed to the messages, saying that when he met the girl on Facebook he was having problems with his wife.He also told police that he knew she was a juvenile but decided to pursue her anyway because he was trying to "get revenge on my wife."Dilcher was arraigned before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek on Thursday, who set bail at $75,000. He is currently in Carbon County Correctional Facility.The preliminary hearing before Kosciolek is scheduled for 1 p.m. on May 4.
