Fire companies from throughout Schuylkill County were battling a raging wind swept brush fire along old Route 209 in Schuylkill Township this afternoon.

The fire was burning about a mile off the roadway north of the village of Newkirk.

A fire was also reported shortly before 7 p.m. in a field near Ametek in Nesquehoning.
