Two of the four fire companies in Jim Thorpe are desirous of merging, it was revealed during a special meeting of the Jim Thorpe Borough Council.

Al Klitsch, a member of the Phoenix Hose Company, made the announcement, saying the West Broadway unit and the Marion Hose Company are ready to consolidate into a new building project.It was indicated a section of the cleared Susquehanna Street area could serve as the site for a new building. The land is under the jurisdiction of the Carbon County Redevelopment Authority.
