A crash just after noon on Easter Sunday claimed the life of a Palmerton man, according to police in Lehigh County.
The crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. Sunday, when a pickup sideswiped two oncoming vehicles before striking the side of the Norma J Restaurant in South Whitehall Township.The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.The Lehigh County Coroner's office identified him as 79-year-old Norman Wissner of the 400 block of Fourth Street in Palmerton.South Whitehall Police said that Wissner's Chevrolet truck was traveling southbound on Route 309 at the time of the crash.Witnesses told police the truck crossed into oncoming traffic, and sideswiped two vehicles that were traveling northbound on 309.The vehicle went off the road through some grass, through a chain link fence, before coming to rest before the Norma J Restaurant, according to police.No one else involved in the incident was injured.The two vehicles that were struck were able to drive from the scene.Wissner was pronounced dead at the scene by Lehigh County Deputy Coroner Jack Filter.An autopsy to determine cause and manner of death was scheduled for Monday, according to a press release from the coroner's office.The road was closed as a result of the crash.
