Woman loses parole bid in assault case

A Tamaqua woman who helped beat up another woman three years ago has lost her bid for parole.

Schuylkill County President Judge William E. Baldwin on March 15 denied Ashley Bynon's request for parole. However, she can try again as of April 1.Baldwin did give Bynon, 22, credit for the time she's served while on the pre-release program, and since she was again committed to the county jail on Feb. 1.Bynon was charged by Tamaqua police with two counts of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct because of fighting on April 16, 2013.Bynon, along with Melissa Baer and Ashley Weirich, all 19 at the time, attacked a woman at Mauch Chunk and Greenwood streets. Police said the victim was walking with a friend when Weirich struck her. Bynon then attacked her from the rear while Baer recorded it on a cellphone.According to witnesses, the three assailants knew the woman had a head injury from an accident, but hit her in the head anyway.Police could see a blood-filled swelling on the victim's forehead, a cut inside her mouth and bruising around her right eye.All three attackers were charged with simple assault, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.
