A Tamaqua man was jailed in the Schuylkill County prison in Pottsville on March 9 after stealing from his uncle.
The victim contacted police at 12:29 a.m. March 8 to report that someone smashed the window in his door, entered his apartment in the 100 block of Hunter Street and made off with jewelry, cash, a laptop and various other items.The victim told police that David John Brode, 21, of 534 Pine St., had been sitting on the porch at the apartment house earlier when the victim left for work.Officers went to 24 E. Union St. after learning that Brode was staying with a friend. The friend told police Brode had a laptop in his possession.Brode was found on the back porch and admitted borrowing a hammer from his friend's house, then going to his uncle's apartment, smashing the glass and making off with various items.Police recovered the computer, several necklaces, a ring, a Samsung cellphone and a bottle of cologne.Brode was arraigned before duty District Judge James Reilly, of Pottsville, on charges of burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief. Bail was set at $15,000 percentage. Unable to post the required $1,500, Brode was lodged in the prison.
