Pennsylvania horse attacked with paintballs has eye removed

NEW HOLLAND, Pa. (AP) - An abandoned Pennsylvania horse that was shot more than 100 times with paintballs has had surgery to remove its injured right eye.

Horse experts who performed the operation say it will enable the 20-year-old animal to live pain-free.Officials from the Lancaster County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals found the horse at New Holland Sales Stables on Monday after the day's sales had ended.The group is offering a $1,000 reward for information about the paintball attack.The horse was also underweight and had been struck by about 130 paintballs at close range.The animal is now in the custody of Omega Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Airville where it is expected to eventually recover.
