Ex-physician accused of offering teenager pills for sex

GREENSBURG (AP) - A former western Pennsylvania physician whose medical license was revoked following a conviction in what prosecutors called a sex-for-pills scheme 14 years ago has been charged with offering pills and cash to a teenager in exchange for sex.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (http://bit.ly/250DRmM ) reports that 60-year-old Robert Franzino is charged with criminal solicitation, indecent assault on a person under age 16 and promoting prostitution by a minor.

Franzino was arrested Sunday after authorities allege he set up a sexual encounter with the 15-year-old girl. He declined comment at arraignment Monday and remains jailed in lieu of $500,000 bond.

Franzino pleaded guilty in 2002 to lesser counts of insurance fraud and violating drug laws. Prosecutors alleged that he prescribed painkillers to four women in return for sex or the expectation of sex.
