The line to buy books inside Shull-David Elementary School on Wednesday night would have made any Barnes and Noble jealous.
Families turned out en masse to support the school's third annual book fair, art show and Title I reading and math night in Lehighton. In addition to the book sale, which benefits the school library, students walked down the halls with pride, showing their parents and family members their artwork.Adrienne Fedor, Shull-David and Mahoning Elementary art teacher, said the event has grown leaps and bounds since the inaugural offering in 2014."Other years we only featured one offering per student, but we decided to give them more than one choice to display this year," Fedor said. "With 300 students in the school, we probably have 600 to 800 pieces out for the show. We really have a great turnout as this seems to get bigger and better each year."As part of the Title I night activities, students were sent on a scavenger hunt around the school."The students find different stations using their clues and as they complete it, they are entered into a contest for prizes," Shull-David Principal Aaron Sebelin said.Students and families really look forward to the night, Fedor said."We enjoy supporting the school and all the hard work that the students put in," said Janice Smith, who attended the event with her granddaughter.A bake sale was also offered just inside the school's entrance."It's great to get everyone out on such a nice night for a good cause," Fedor said. "There are a lot of good things going on in the school and we're always looking for ways to showcase them."
