After a winter hiatus, the Palmerton Area Historical Society will resume its monthly meetings at 7 p.m. March 14 in the Palmerton Library's Knight's Gallery.The speaker will be Dan Kunkle, director of the Lehigh Gap Nature Center. His subject will be "What's Happening! What's Next?" The public is invited to attend, without cost or obligation.Fire companyThe Bowmanstown Fire Company, 259 Lime St., Bowmanstown, will hold a breakfast from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday. The special will be pancakes. For more information call 610-852-2722.Heritage centerThe Palmerton Heritage Center, 410 Delaware Ave., is continuing its display of memorabilia relating to Stephen S. Palmer, president of the New Jersey Zinc Company and founder of Palmerton in 1898. The late Warren Siegmond was a student of the Palmer family, and his widow has allowed the historical society to show part of his collection.The center is open various hours from Wednesday to Saturday each week. The group meets the fourth Tuesday of each month.Blood driveMiller-Keystone Blood Center's Palmerton March 4 community blood drive in Palmerton drew 66 potential donors, and 69 units of blood were collected, including 8 on the Trima machine. This visit was sponsored by Horsehead Community Development Fund.The following donors reached gallon levels: David Snyder, 10 gallons; Susan Parisi, 5 gallons; James Engle and Lisa Vignone, 4 gallons; and Joseph Parisi and Michael Shafer, 3 gallons. There were two first-time donors.Each blood drive involves a large number of volunteers, both at the drive and "behind the scenes."
