No injuries in mattress fire

No injuries occurred after a mattress caught fire inside a bedroom of an apartment building Wednesday morning in Slatington.

Borough Fire Chief Keith Weaver said the fire broke out at 11:20 a.m. at 215 E. Franklin St.Weaver said the department responded to the scene at 11:24 a.m. and found smoke coming from multiple windows."It was a working fire," Weaver said. "We confined the fire to one bedroom."Weaver said the smoke traveled throughout the adjoining home.No one was home at the time of the fire, Weaver said.Two dogs were rescued, for which Weaver said CART is providing temporary housing.He said firefighters had the matter under control in under 10 minutes.The house sustained only minor damage, Weaver said.Also responding at the scene were Diamond Fire Company, Emerald Fire Company, Greenawalds Fire Company's Rapid Intervention Team and Northern Valley EMS.Weaver said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
