Clergy abuse hotline getting scores of calls after AG report

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - A clergy abuse hotline has gotten more than 100 calls in two days since the attorney general released a scathing report on a central Pennsylvania diocese.

Attorney General Kathleen Kane's report said two former bishops, James Hogan and Joseph Adamec, either covered up or didn't do enough to respond to hundreds of allegations of child abuse by more than 50 priests in the Altoona-Johnstown diocese from 1966 to 2011. Hogan died in 2005 but Adamec and his attorney have denied that he failed to address the allegations promptly or properly.Kane announced a hotline - 888-538-8541 -at Tuesday's news conference and, by Thursday morning, it had received more than 100 tips.Kane spokesman Jeff Johnson says the right information could lead to criminal charges. The diocese didn't immediately comment Thursday.
