Easton man gets prison term for retail theft
An Easton man was sentenced to a Carbon County prison term on Thursday for retail theft.
Glen Joseph Taormina, 28, was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika to serve 9 to a day less 24 months in prison. Taormina previously pleaded guilty to the charge. He was arrested by Mahoning Township police with taking $1,812.72 worth of merchandise from the Walmart store. Township police were notified by Whitehall police, who had Taormina in custody following a traffic stop, that in the car they found items stolen from Walmart in the township. The incident occurred Feb. 2, 2015.Taormina admitted to a drug addiction problem but said he is currently in a drug program in the Lehigh County prison and will continuing counseling after his release.Taormina is currently serving a probation/parole revocation prison term in Lehigh County that runs to August. Matika ruled his sentence would run concurrent with Lehigh, meaning that after Taormina finishes the Lehigh term he still has three months to serve in Carbon.In addition to the prison term, Taormina was ordered to render 75 hours of community service when released on parole, get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, supply a DNA sample, pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole, and stay out of the Walmart store.Probation termTara M. Good, 40, of Albrightsville, who previously pleaded guilty to retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia, was sentenced by the court.On the drug charge Matika placed her on probation for a year and on the theft charge a fine of $100 and costs were imposed.Good was arrested on Oct. 6, 2014, by Mahoning Township police at the Walmart store for taking $42 worth of merchandise. While being taken into custody, the drug paraphernalia was found on her.It was noted Good has three pending criminal cases.Matika also ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, render 50 hours of community service, pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee and stay out of Walmart. She will not be released from custody because of the pending cases.
