February is Adopt a Dog for Life month in Carbon County.
During the county commissioners’ meeting last week, the board made the move to again name February in honor of dog adoptions in the hopes of finding forever homes for more dogs in the shelter. This is the third year the county has done this.Last year, the initiative resulted in 12 dogs finding homes. The commissioners also approved lowering the adoption fee from $100 to $50 for the month.Tom Connors, director of the shelter, said on Tuesday that there were 13 dogs available for adoption but the number fluctuates daily. The Carbon County Animal Shelter is operated by the county, but depends on community support of monetary and supply donations to keep the doors open. The commissioners have said that the shelter has had a complete turnaround since Connors took over the helm.Connors started a number of fundraising programs at the shelter, including a monthly clothing drive and an annual yard sale, and has found numerous dogs forever homes. For more information on the shelter or to adopt a dog, visit the Carbon County website at
