Parishes plan special services

Designated parishes throughout the Allentown Diocese will hold special 24 Hours for the Lord services on March 4 and 5.

These special services were the idea of Pope Francis who stated in the "Misericordiae Vultus" ("The Face of Mercy") that he would like for March 4 to 5 to be set aside as "24 Hours for the Lord."During this 24 hours, priests will be available for the sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation while Eucharistic adoration is being held. Benediction will be held at the closing of adoration. Some churches will also hold Stations of the Cross.Carbon CountyIn Carbon County, eight churches will each take a specific time period to offer Eucharistic adoration with benediction, and Penance and Reconciliation. The schedule includes:• 8 to 10:30

a.m.March 4: St. Francis of Assisi, Nesquehoning• 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.: St. Peter the Fisherman, Lake Harmony• 2:30 to 5 p.m.: Immaculate Conception, Jim Thorpe• 5 to 7:30 p.m.: Sacred Heart of Jesus, Palmerton• 7:30 to 10 p.m.: St. Joseph, Jim Thorpe• 10 p.m. to 12:30

a.m.March 5: SS. Peter and Paul, Lehighton• 12:30 to 5:30 a.m.: St. Joseph, Summit Hill• 5:30 to 8 a.m.: Our Lady of Lourdes, Weatherly.ShenandoahThe 24-hour period will begin at Divine Mercy Parish in Shenandoah, Schuylkill County. The schedule includes:• 9 a.m. to 8

p.m.March 4: Penance and Reconciliation• 9 a.m.: Mass, followed by Eucharistic adoration• 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.: Chaplet of the Divine Mercy• 11 a.m.: Prayer Service by the children of trinity Academy• Noon: Stations of the Cross• 1 p.m.: Prayers for the Canonization of the Rev. Walter Ciszek• 2 p.m.: Taize Prayer• 4 p.m.: Rosary - Joyful Mysteries• 4:30 p.m.: Rosary - Sorrowful Mysteries• 5 and 6 p.m.: Prayers led by the Hispanic community• 7 p.m.: Benediction.PottsvilleThe 24 Hours for the Lord will continue at All Saints in Mahanoy City and St. Patrick in Pottsville with private prayer in the Adoration Chapels from 8 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday.Divine Mercy will continue the devotional period at 6 a.m. The schedule includes:• 6 to 8 a.m., Saturday: sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation. Eucharistic adoration also begins at 6 a.m.• 7 a.m.: Rosary - Glorious Mysteries• 7:30 a.m.: Rosary - Luminous Mysteries• 8 a.m.: Stations of the Cross• 9 a.m.: Benediction at closing.
