A Monroe County man faces two arson charges for allegedly setting fire to hospital equipment at Blue Mountain Health System’s Lehighton campus.

James Mauhili, 35, of Pocono Summit, was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Ed Lewis of Jim Thorpe. However, his hearing has been continued until 1 p.m. March 2.Mauhili has been charged with two counts of arson and one count of risking catastrophe. He remains incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $200,000 straight bail.According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by patrolman Neal Ebbert:At 5:50 a.m. Jan. 26, Ebbert received a call of a man in the Lehighton Hospital Emergency Room attempting to light the emergency room on fire.Upon arrival, Ebbert was met by ER nurses Eddie Berger and Paul Vrablic, informing him that Mauhili was brought to the hospital by his mother for treatment.Mauhili was placed into a room and told he had to change into hospital clothes. He refused, and the nurse told the doctor. When the nurse came back into the room, he observed Mauhili igniting the oxygen line on fire, using a lighter. The oxygen line is a live feed of oxygen from the main tank to be used for the treatment of patients.Damage to the hospital was kept at a minimum of to the call light cord and the oxygen regulator. At the time, the hospital was occupied with staff and other patients.Vrablic had to put out the fireto prevent further damage or injuries to people on scene.Berger told Mauhili that he could have injured, killed or caused an explosion to the hospital, at which time he stated that he did not care.Vrablic received a slight burn on his right hand from putting the fire out. While he was being transported to the station, Mauhili said that he was sick of being in the hospital and wanted out.
