Annual Polar Plunge is Saturday

There is still time to sign up to plunge during St. Joseph Regional Academy's third annual "Be Cool for Our School" Polar Plunge. The fundraiser to raise money for the operation of the school will take place Saturday at Mauch Chunk Lake in Jim Thorpe.

Registration is $35. Anyone who has not yet registered but would like to plunge, or be a chicken, can either preregister today or register Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. The first polar plungers will make their way into the icy lake beginning at 11 a.m.The event will also feature Oscar Dovale, a well-known TV personality seen on QVC, as the "premier plunger."Event organizer Kathy Goffsaid that in addition to Dovale, Tux the Penguin, mascot for the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins hockey team, will be at the event from 9:30-10:30 a.m. to pose for pictures with eventgoers.There will also be a costumed polar bear and chicken roaming the beach during the plunge and DJ Steve Kalbach will provide music, while Ann Marie Calabrese will be broadcasting live from the lake for Magic 105.5."We are hoping for a large turnout this year," Goff said.
