Man gets prison for fifth retail theft

A Lansford man was sentenced to a Carbon County prison term Thursday on his fifth conviction for retail theft.

Nicholas J. Harris Jr., 40, was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika to serve six to one day less 24 months in prison. He previously pleaded to the charge, rated a felony 3.He was arrested by Lansford police for an incident on Sept. 29, 2014, at the Family Dollar store along East Patterson Street.Matika also ordered Harris to render 75 hours of community service when released on parole, supply a DNA sample, get a mental health evaluation and follow any recommendations for treatment, pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee and stay out of the Family Dollar store.Harris was ordered into immediate custody by Matika because of an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Northumberland County.
