Bertha Collevechio of Summit Hill was the guest of honor recently at a party to celebrate her 90th birthday.
She is the widow of Carlo Collevechio, who died in 1997.Born Nov. 5, 1925, in Summit Hill, she is one of 12 children of the late Joseph and Anna Valent.Bertha and Carlo married in 1950. Her husband served on the Summit Hill Borough Council and as its president for many years before his untimely death, after which time Bertha was appointed to fulfill his unexpired term on the board.The recent birthday celebrant attended the former St. Michael's Grade School in Lansford and graduated from the former Summit Hill High School.She is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Summit Hill, where she was a volunteer for many years.Before retiring, she worked for the former L&J Fashions in Summit Hill, for 26 years.She and her late husband had six children, Carlo and his wife, Pat, of Tresckow; Kevin of Lansford; Bruce and his wife, Jerri, of Flemington, New Jersey; Robert and his wife, Mary Jean, of Summit Hill; Michele, wife of Dr. Vincent Zuwiala of Wyomissing; and Suzanne Haggar of Summit Hill.They also helped to raise two special nephews, Joseph Gillespie and his wife, Melissa, of Feasterville; and James Gillespie and his wife, Laura, of Lansdale.Bertha has 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
