State police at Fern Ridge are investigating a report of animal cruelty stemming from an encounter in the parking lot of Tractor Supply in Brodheadsville around 2 p.m. Saturday.

Trooper Leo Nita did not release the name of the suspect, but said the person has been identified and interviewed.“State police take very seriously reports of animal cruelty and will actively pursue those that are found to be responsible for causing harm to animals,” the barracks said in a news release.Cindy Smith posted her account of the incident on Facebook, noting that witnesses claim a man mistreated the dog both inside the store and in his truck before speeding off the property.Police said the investigation is ongoing.
