Effort man admits assault of officer

An Effort man admitted in Carbon County court on Thursday to assaulting a police officer during an incident.

Ryan Lee Henning, 37, pleaded guilty before Judge Steven R. Serfass to one count each of resisting arrest, persistent disorderly conduct, simple assault and harassment.Henning was arrested on Nov. 15, 2015, following an incident in Franklin Township. Officer Franklin A. Lorah responded to 76 Main Road for an allegation of a male at the residence causing a disturbance.On scene Lorah found Henning, who he said was intoxicated. Lorah attempted to place Henning under arrest and the defendant struggled with the officer, causing him injuries.Assistant District Attorney Michael Greek said Lorah was still on workers' compensation for a hand injury suffered in the incident. In a plea bargain a charge of aggravated assault was dropped.On the simple assault charge Serfass sentenced him to serve one to 18 months in prison with credit for 61 days already served, and he was paroled.On the other counts he was placed on probation for a year on each, consecutive to the assault charge and each other.He was also ordered to get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations and follow any recommendations for treatment, zero tolerance imposed on drug and alcohol use, render a total of 175 hours of community service, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee.On the harassment charge, a summary offense, he was fined $300 and costs.
