A 7-month-old infant died in a house fire in Lehighton in October. Nevah Hoffman's death is still under investigation, according to county authorities.
Fire crews were called to a home on South First Street in the borough the morning of Oct. 23 for a fire. The fire was isolated to the top floor of a house that includes four apartment units. The fire was extinguished in a matter of minutes, but the infant was found dead inside the house.A week after the fire, Stacy Fronheiser told the Times News that she was on the lower level of the apartment she shared with Hoffman's father helping her son get ready because she had an appointment that day. She recalled that when she went to check on Nevah, she was hit by a wall of thick black smoke. She said that state police told her the smoke was probably caused by an electrical fire. She said troopers told her that the smoke detectors in the house, while equipped with fresh batteries, were malfunctioning.State police have not issued any updates since the day of the fire.Contacted Dec. 28, Carbon County County Coroner Bruce Nalesnik said he is awaiting data from state police before he can finalize the cause and manner of Nevah's death.
