The Friends of Beltzville State Park are inviting residents to get out and exercise in 2016, and take advantage of the park in the process.
The "Beltzville on the Move" program will allow participants to track their time spent doing activites like snowshoeing, cross country skiing, hiking, walking, and running. Then, they'll compare it to others who have taken on the challenge. The program kicks off with an event at the park's Environmental Education Center from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday.Participants will be able to log their progress at the group's website --

Gary Schoenberger, a physical therapist and volunteer with the Friends, said that any extra motivation to work out helps."It's basically a way to get people to work toward fitness," he said. "We work constantly to give people a reason to be motivated."The initial challenge will last 90 days, ending March 31. The group plans to meet after that again to compare the results from this quarter, and kick off the next one.For more information, contact the Friends of Beltzville at 215-230-0654, or 570-730-7155, or online at
