Winter weather advisory for sleet, snow Monday night

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a winter weather advisory for mixed sleet, freezing rain and snow in effect from 6 p.m. Monday to 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Snow and sleet accumulation of up to 1 inch are expected, along with around a tenth of an inch of ice.

Mixed precipitation is expected to begin sometime between 6 and 10 pm and may briefly change to all snow around midnight before

changing to all freezing rain by dawn Tuesday.

Freezing rain may linger until late morning in the higher elevations while it should change to non freezing rain in the lower elevations around sunrise Tuesday.

Temperatures in the upper 20s to lower 30s will begin rising toward sunrise Tuesday and then should rise into the mid 30s everywhere by 11 am Tuesday.

This Afternoon: Showers likely, mainly after 5pm. Cloudy, with a high near 60. Southwest wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tonight: Showers, mainly before 9pm. Low around 34. North wind 13 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 41. North wind 8 to 11 mph becoming east in the afternoon.

Monday Night: Rain, snow, and sleet before 1am, then sleet, possibly mixed with freezing rain. Low around 32. East wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New ice accumulation of around a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tuesday: Rain, possibly mixed with freezing rain, becoming all rain after 8am. High near 44. East wind 11 to 16 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night: A chance of rain before 7pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
