Palmerton woman has been named student marshal

Abigail Storm, daughter of Pam and Jeff Storm of Palmerton, has been named the student marshal for the College of Arts and Architecture for fall 2015. She earned a B.S. in art education with a minor in special education at commencement exercises Dec. 19. She graduated with a 3.92 GPA.Storm was a student teacher in Pittsburgh this past semester at both the Fanny Edel Falk Laboratory School for ages 5-10 and Wesley Spectrum, where she created lessons for students age 14-21 with autism.Her honors include the Alice Schwartz Mattil Award in Art Education in both 2014 and 2015. In 2013, she had an article published in “The Dispatch” about an online teaching collaboration with Forest Hills Middle School in Sidman. Storm has exhibited her artwork in various venues at Penn State.In addition to her student teaching experience, Storm was a teacher for Penn State’s Saturday Art School program last spring. She has also worked at several day care facilities and programs for people with special needs. As part of the Helping Hands Organization, she interned at both Park Forest Elementary School and Mount Nittany Middle School in State College.She has been active in THON throughout her Penn State career, at both the Lehigh Valley and University Park campuses.Storm plans to teach in on the elementary school level. She also plans to seek a master’s degree in special education.
