Woman takes swing at police officer at hospital

A Junedale woman cited for a hit-and-run incident in Tamaqua on Oct. 9 has been charged for her actions at a hospital after the accident.

Colleen Marie Hodge, 52, of 11 Main St., Junedale, Banks Township, Carbon County, has been charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment by Coaldale Police.Hodge was driving a Mazda that night. When she left a Tamaqua bar after midnight, she struck a parked vehicle on Pine Street in Tamaqua. She continued driving north on Route 309 until she was stopped by Rush Township Police in the area of the Pines Motel.Hodge refused field sobriety tests and was taken to St. Luke's Hospital-Miners campus in Coaldale for blood tests.At the hospital, she began screaming obscenities at the staff and a Tamaqua police officer. She swung her fists and kicked out at police and hospital security personnel. The security officer suffered injuries to his right hand/arm and hip area.
