A Weissport man admitted his part in a burglary on Thursday afternoon in Carbon County court.
James Allen Neff, 61, pleaded to one count of criminal trespass before Judge Joseph J. Makita. In exchange for the plea burglary, theft and related counts were dropped. Neff was scheduled to go on trial Monday.Neff admitted his part in the entry at 21 Graver St., Lehighton. Several items were taken, including a television. Also charged with the incident was Neff's son, Justen, and Karley Smith. The victims of the break-in were Terry and Melissa Smith.Matika told Neff that based on his prior criminal record score and the felony 2 count he was pleading to, he faces a minimum prison term of between nine and 16 months.Neff admitted to a long-term drug abuse problem and claimed he is trying to get into a inpatient rehabilitation program.Matika deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation to prepare a pre-sentence investigation report. He also told Neff to continue to seek placement in a inpatient program.
