An elderly Schuylkill County couple was killed in a one-vehicle crash Friday in which speed was a factor.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred about 5 p.m. along Route 183, three-quarters of a mile south of Blue Mountain Road in Wayne Township.Troopers said George G. Hahn, 81, of Pottsville, was driving a 2007 Toyota Solara northbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle. The car crossed both southbound lanes before hitting the guardrail along the southbound shoulder. The car then re-entered the road for a short time before again striking the guardrail along the southbound shoulder.After striking the guardrail a second time, the car rolled onto its passenger side, roof and then driver's side, while traveling through the guardrail and down an embankment. The car struck a large tree with its undercarriage before coming to rest.Hahn's wife, Edwardine M. Hahn, 77, was pronounced dead at the scene.Hahn was transported to the Reading Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
