Engler wins Carbon District Attorney's race

District Attorney Jean A. Engler has won her first full term, beating a republican challenger.

Engler, a democrat, withstood a challenge from attorney Adam R. Weaver. She took 6,226 votes to Weaver's 5,415.

The Jim Thorpe resident served as an assistant district attorney for 26 years before succeeding then-District Attorney Gary Dobias after he retired for health and personal reasons.

Engler said during her campaign that if re-elected she would continue to focus on prosecuting drug dealers to combat the county's drug problem.

Engler celebrated the victory with her family at the Lantern Restaurant in Nesquehoning.

"I'm so happy, so relieved and gratified that the voters of Carbon County returned me to the job I love. Thanks to all of my family and friends that worked so hard in the last several months."
