Rash of window breaking, mischief incidents reported

Tamaqua police are investigating several reports of broken/smashed windows. The damage has been done over the past few weeks.

Wittig Accounting, at 244 E. Broad St., had its large, plate glass front window broken twice in the past few weeks, with the latest incident reported on Saturday. The same window was smashed a little more than one month ago.Also on Saturday, police were notified at 2:30 a.m. of an alarm going off at Emma’s Soaps and Lotions, 101 E. Broad St. Officers were in the unit block of West Broad Street at the time, conducting a traffic stop and were able to respond immediately. They determined the windows were hit by BBs/pellets.No one else was in the area at the time so it’s possible the windows were shot at on Friday morning, cracking and shattering due to the below freezing temperatures Saturday morning. The two windows face East Broad Street and a review of security camera footage determined there was no one in the area at the time of the alarm.Two reports were made on Friday, Oct. 30, at almost the same moment.Shanna Pointdexter, of 73 Hunter St., called police at 2 a.m. when a hexagonal nut was thrown through her front window. The nut was caught in the curtains, which were closed, possibly saving her from injury as she was in a chair directly across from the window. At 2:05 a.m., someone used a BB/pellet gun to smash the windows on a 2015 Toyota Tacoma, which was parked in the lot at the Tamaqua Diner, 39 Center St.The truck’s owner, Gino Cicioni of Hometown, was inside the diner, having breakfast. He told police he parked the truck at 1:30 a.m. and discovered the damage about 30 minutes later.Two businesses at the north end of town have been repeat victims of criminal mischief.Three vehicles at the All American Jeep dealer have been damaged by rocks or BBs/pellets over the past three weeks with the latest discovered on Oct. 26.Lehigh Tire at 15 N. Route 309 Highway has also been the victim of repeat incidents. Sometime between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning, for the past three weeks, someone has been shooting BBs/pellets through the windows.Anyone with information, on any suspicious activity, is asked to contact police at 570-668-5000.

The front window at Witting Accounting, 244 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, has been smashed for the second time in less than two months.
