A Berks County motorcyclist died of injuries sustained when his bike hit the rear of another vehicle in Lehigh County. State police at Fogelsville said the crash occurred about 7:35 p.m. on Aug. 17 in the 7000 block of Kernsville Road, in Lowhill Township.
Troopers said Jeffrey T. Raniere, 52, of Shoemakersville, was driving his bike westbound when a 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer, driven by Brittany G. Kunkle, 25, of Northampton, stopped in front of him.Raniere took "strong evasive action" at the last moment, troopers said, by steering to the left. He then attempted to turn to the left but the bike impacted with the rear left of the Lancer. After impact the bike veered to the southwest and Raniere fell off of it. The bike continued to the left and traveled south until it left the road, traveled through a field and came to rest on its left side.Raniere showed signs of intoxication, troopers said, and was seriously injured.He was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. He died at the hospital on Oct. 18 of multiple traumatic injuries, troopers added.Kunkle and her passenger, Corey D. Rehrig, 27, of Lansford, were not injured.
