A Tamaqua woman was cited after police received a call about a suspicious vehicle in the vicinity of the Tamaqua Elementary School on Oct. 13.
Tamaqua police were dispatched to the area of the school at 8:50 a.m. after callers reported a red Ford Explorer was being driven erratically on Lehigh Street.A school employee also called to say a red Ford Explorer, driven by a woman, had struck a pole on school property. The callers were able to provide a license plate number.The plate came back as being registered to Stephen Kieffer, of 418 Hazle St., Tamaqua.Through an investigation officers learned the SUV was parked in space 23 at the Tamaqua Majestic House parking lot. That spot is assigned to Donna Hanna.Hanna said her daughter used the vehicle to take her children to school that morning after they missed the bus. The daughter was identified as Jane Kieffer, 34, of 405 Rolling Mill Ave. When contacted, Kieffer admitted using the Explorer and striking "something" with the bumper. She also admitted she does not have a valid driver's license.She was charged with driving with a suspended license, hit-and-run and failing to immediately notify authorities about an accident.
