'Pink Out' game planned in Tamaqua

Pink isn't usually a color associated with high school football, but the Tamaqua Sports Stadium will be awash in a sea of pink this Friday in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

When the Tamaqua Blue Raiders play host to the Blue Mountain Eagles in a widely anticipated gridiron contest, the players, band members and cheerleaders for both teams will sport the color pink. The annual "Pink Out" game will start with a special coin toss before kickoff. Karen Campomizzi, a math teacher at Tamaqua Area High School, has been invited to toss the coin in honor of all those who are battling breast cancer, as well as women fighting any form of cancer. While Campomizzi teaches at Tamaqua, she resides within the Blue Mountain Area School District. Her children, John and Lisa, attended school in the district. John participated in the football program during his school years.Spectators are encouraged to wear pink. Pink Out T-shirts and other pink items will be available at the stadium.Tamaqua's Knee High Football program will also be recognized at Friday night's game.
