Tamaqua police have charged a New Ringgold man with breaking into a parked car and are investigating if he is involved in several other similar crimes.
At 4:15 a.m. on Oct. 18, officers received a call from a Union Street resident, who had just confronted a man who was going through the victim's car, a Chrysler Pacifica.The trespasser told the victim "Sorry, bro" before fleeing on foot.Several items were missing from the Chrysler, including compact discs and a Sirius XM radio, valued at $200.Thirty minutes later officers were called to the 400 block of East Elm Street, where a resident was detaining Joseph James Redner, 38, of 80 Pine Hill Road, after finding Redner in the man's vehicle.The car owner saw Redner toss a jacket and several items to the ground. Those items were recovered and included syringes, a spoon, a white wax baggie stamped Halloween, the paperwork for the victim's vehicle, a set of jumper cables, an umbrella, green sunglasses, a broken black cord, flashlights, bobby pins, ear buds, a power adapter, an FM modulator, $1.33 in change, a blue auxiliary cord, a USB adapter cord and a pack of Rolaids.Redner denied being in any cars. He was charged with theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.Later in the day several other residents from the Dutch Hill area reported their vehicles had been entered overnight. The victims include residents of Willing, Union, and Elm streets.
