Scranton school teachers set to strike, activities canceled

SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) - Scranton School District teachers are set to strike at the end of the school day, meaning sports and other after-school programs will be canceled, too.

So far, Friday night's high school football game against Scranton Prep is still on, but officials say that's may change, too, once the teachers strike at 3:30 p.m.

The Scranton Federation of Teachers says the teachers will picket to protest efforts to cut salaries and health care benefits, and increasing classroom sizes.

Cross country coach and teacher Jim Griffiths says he feels bad for the students, but says, "I'm trying to stick with the union and do what we think is best."
