Regular attendees at the Palmerton Community Festival may not recognize the One Nite Stand Band by name, but they should recognize their faces.
The same members played the bandstand last year as Lenny and the Loafers, playing oldies from the 50s and 60s.But before Lenny and the Loafers came about, the same group of musicians were playing country music as One Nite Stand. This year the band will play on the main stage Saturday afternoon starting at 3:30 p.m.One Nite Stand plays what they refer to as "upbeat country," but from a variety of eras. They'll play everything from Merle Haggard and Willy Nelson, up to Garth Brooks and Toby Keith.Whether they are playing as One Nite Stand or Lenny and the Loafers, the band will often include selections from both genres.Although singer Lenny Green said he has noticed it's easier to get a country crowd to enjoy oldies music than the other way around."People shouldn't be surprised if we're in the middle of our country set and they hear a rock and roll song," he said. "A lot of times if we're doing an oldies gig, I'll bring my cowboy hat along."Green said after their experience playing in the bandstand last year, the band can't wait to get back to Palmerton."Palmerton is such a neat little town -- it's kinda cliché to say it's like a family, but it is, people are very supportive, a little more down to earth," he said. The band is looking forward to the increased exposure of playing on the main stage this year, and hopefully bringing their sound to a larger audience."I really enjoy the outdoor venues. And it's a neat little town," Green said.
