Midnight Special on the main stage Sunday

Midnight Special has been playing country around the Carbon County area since the late 1980s.

This year, the band will play Sunday afternoon at the Palmerton Community Festival's main stage.Dennis Rehrig, who started the band in 1988, and plays the pedal steel guitar, was previously a member of "Twitty Fever" who will close out the show Sunday night. He is actually the twin brother of Dave Rehrig, who plays Conway Twitty for that band.Rehrig actually will be joining Twitty Fever on pedal steel for their set Sunday night.Like Twitty Fever, Midnight Special is also a family affair. Rehrig's daughter and daughter-in-law often travel with the band to take care of their lights and sound equipment.Vocalists Steve Ritter and Trishann Green cover songs from nearly every era of country music - from modern favorites like Jason Aldean all the way back to classics like Patsy Cline. But the whole band works together to choose their songs."We all decide, and most of us agree on the songs," he said.He said that he is looking forward to the band's return to the main stage, where the Rehrig family has been playing for decades."We just like playing there - we know most of the people who come out. It's a fun day," he said.
