NORWOOD, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a Philadelphia-area police officer is in good condition after being shot while answering an early morning call about a man believed to be suicidal.
Police in Delaware County said Officer Mark Hanley was hit in the chest and leg when the man fired through the door of a unit at a Norwood Borough apartment building.
Chief Mark DelVecchio told the Delaware County Daily Times (http://bit.ly/1EqZouG ) that "The officer was saved by his bulletproof vest."
DelVecchio said officers were sent to the Mohawk Manor Apartments just before 1 a.m. Sunday after a report of a suicidal man with a gun.
Hanley was listed in good condition at Crozer Chester Medical Center. The other man was taken to Taylor Hospital for treatment of a minor injury and psychiatric evaluation.
