One of five defendants in the armed robbery of two juvenile girls in Nesquehoning earlier this year entered a guilty plea in Carbon County court on Tuesday.
President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II accepted the plea to one count each of criminal conspiracy to commit robbery and resisting arrest from Elijah Michael Frey, 19, of Nesquehoning. He is the second defendant in the case to enter a plea.Frey admitted his part in the robbery of two girls, ages 12 and 13 at the time. The incident occurred at 7:45 p.m. Jan. 17 in the 300 block of East Center Street. The two girls said they were approached by six individuals, and three of them were carrying handguns. The suspects took a cellphone from one of the girls. Also charged in the incident were Izael Flores, 18, of Nesquehoning; Tyquan Shakeem Owens, 18, of Lansford; Talon Wesley Lewis, 17, of Summit Hill; and an unnamed juvenile. Lewis is being prosecuted as an adult. The name of the juvenile was not released because he is charged in juvenile court. The sixth person involved in the incident has never been charged.According to police the two girls told investigators that the armed individuals "physically pushed their handguns into the victims' ribs and arms."The resisting charge stems from an incident on Jan. 20 when borough police were trying to take Frey into custody on an arrest warrant for the robbery. Frey struggled with the officers. Chief Sean Smith had to use a stun gun to get Frey, who is known as "Big E" for his large physical size, under control.Nanovic deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation department to prepare a presentence investigation report.Flores entered a guilty plea to criminal conspiracy and is scheduled to be sentenced in September. Owens recently had his bail revoked on a petition of the adult probation office and is in the county prison with his case pending. Lewis case is also pending.
