Man is swept away in Philly's Schuylkill River, drowns

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Police in Philadelphia say a man drowned in the Schuylkill (SKOO'-kul) River after he was swept away while swimming.

Police say the unidentified man disappeared Saturday evening during a swim in the Schuylkill near Venice Island Park in the city's Manayunk neighborhood.

WCAU-TV reports that the man had been attending the Hidden River Blues Festival when he went in the water to cool off and got swept away in the current.

Rescue crews found his body in the river shortly after 7 p.m. They tried to revive the man, but he was later pronounced dead.
