Pittsburgh sued over SWAT raid that forced family into snow

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The city of Pittsburgh is being sued for a SWAT raid on the wrong apartment in a duplex that forced a couple, and the woman's four young children, out into the snow in below-freezing temperatures.

Tabatha Werkmeister and Grinage Wilson say in Thursday's federal lawsuit that the city's SWAT team entered their apartment and ordered them and Werkmeister's children - ages 2 through 9 - to walk through the snow on a 20-degree day in January 2014.

The door to their upstairs apartment is located next to a door for a downstairs unit in a subdivided house.

The couple says the city should have done more to determine the SWAT team was entering the correct apartment, among other claims.

A police spokeswoman didn't immediately respond to questions about a copy of the lawsuit emailed to her.
