HARRISBURG (AP) While Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane waits to be arraigned on charges that she leaked secret grand jury information, some critics want action to force her out of office.
Retired state Supreme Court Justice Ronald Castille, who authorized the grand jury investigation that led to the charges, said Friday that Kane should step down. But she has refused to resign.Rep. Doyle Heffley, R-Carbon, said, "It is regrettable that it has come to the point where criminal charges have been filed against Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane, who is supposed to be the top law enforcement leader in our Commonwealth."Clearly, these charges are very serious and must be dealt with by our judicial system accordingly."Even the number of counts is staggering in scope and they represent a call for justice."I am disappointed that our residents have to endure this embarrassment."The hard-working citizens of Pennsylvania do not deserve this."Today I join the bipartisan call for Attorney General Kane to step down from office for the benefit of the people of Pennsylvania."While no judgment of guilt has been rendered, and everyone in our nation is innocent until proven guilty, there is a much higher standard that high officeholders should, and must, adhere to."
