Coaldale driver facing DUI charges

A Coaldale man has been cited following a road rage incident on June 6, which was witnessed by a Coaldale police officer.

The officer was on patrol at 1:37 a.m. when he witnessed a red Jeep Cherokee stop abruptly at the intersection of Route 209 and Fifth Street. A truck with a motorcycle trailer had slowed in front of the Jeep in preparation for making a right hand turn. The driver of the Jeep began yelling out his window, then accelerated, causing the tires to spin. He drove around the truck and trailer, all the time screaming out the window at the other driver. The officer stopped the Jeep and identified the driver as Edward Anthony Moyer, 34, of 25 E. Lehigh St. Moyer appeared to be drunk, but was aware enough that he told the officer he knew he was stopped due to the way he had been driving. He explained that he had been agitated before the other driver slowed down, due to an earlier argument with his girlfriend.Moyer was given, and failed, field sobriety tests, then transported to St. Luke's Miners Hospital, Coaldale, for blood tests. The results of the test indicate a blood-alcohol content of 0.154 percent, almost twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent. He was charged with three counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, careless driving and following too closely for conditions.
