Jonny Lang, KICK coming to Penn's Peak next month
Jonny Lang with The Record Company will perform at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe at 8 p.m. Sept. 27.
Sixteen years ago, at the age of 16, Lang found success with the release of his major label debut album "Lie To Me."Fame does not seem to have impacted him from being the same country farm boy from Fargo, North Dakota, who got his start in the local clubs of Minneapolis. He survived the passage of youth to adulthood, fell in love, began a family, and in the process passed through the life lessons we all endure.Lang has a keen sense of what he aims to achieve creatively, what music means to him, and is focused on the impact that his songs bring to the lives of those that encounter his repertoire. For Lang, with the release of "Fight For My Soul," he is entering a chapter wherein he has found his true voice. The album defies categorization by a single genre. The textured arrangements, broad worldview, gorgeous vocal melodies, and expressive guitar playing are what defines "Fight For My Soul."It is unequivocally what Lang aimed to achieve over the long period he has been working on reaching a realized vision."Much of what I've experienced through music and life in general is in these songs. I really like reaching out and connecting with people. For me, this is what it's all about. It keeps it fresh with different experiences every day."The path Lang has been on has brought him the opportunity to interact with some of the most respected legends in music. On the way up, he shared the stage with The Rolling Stones, B.B. King, Aerosmith, Sting, and Buddy Guy, who he continues to tour with today.KICK The INXS InexperienceOn Sept. 26, Penn's Peak welcomes KICK The INXS Experience, a salute and tribute to the internationally acclaimed rock band, INXS.Showtime is 8 p.m.The band is a unique blend of talented musicians who bring the highest level of musicianship to the audience while showing a true passion for the music of INXS.Vocalist, guitarist, and singer-songwriter, Cory Massi, has long held a respect and admiration for the late Michael Hutchence, having seen INXS perform in Philadelphia in the late 1980s.He auditioned for the show "Rockstar: INXS" in 2004, but the role was awarded to JD Fortune. In July of 2013, while attending an Aerosmith tribute show, it struck him that there was no reason he couldn't be on that stage in tribute to Michael Hutchence and INXS, an idea he had been tossing around for nearly a decade.Massi had watched the emergence of the tribute scene during that time and after a conversation or two with leading tribute circuit friends, Paul Sinclair of "Get the Led Out" and Rick Murphy of "Hollywood Nights" and the various lifelong friends who backed both these great singers, he found himself inspired to bring his idea to fruition.KICK- The INXS Experience has managed to capture the spirit of INXS in both its sound and live performance. The focus has been on faithfully re-creating the music in its most powerful sense with bass player Don Leslie, drummer Johnny Dee, piano and synth Mark Goodnough, guitarists Todd King and Jason Taylor, saxophonist Evan Jacob and lead vocals by Cory Massi.Upcoming shows• Aug. 18, An Evening with Graham Nash, 8 p.m.• Aug. 29, Eric Burdon & The Animals with the Edgar Winter Band, 8 p.m.• Sept. 10, Jamey Johnson, 8 p.m.• Sept. 11, Easton Corbin, 8 p.m.• Sept. 20, Dave Mason, 8 p.m.• Oct. 3, Gene Watson, 8 p.m.• Oct. 4, The Winery Dogs, 8 p.m.• Oct. 9, Blue Oyster Cult with special guest Vanilla Fudge, 8 p.m.• Oct. 15, Clint Black, 8 p.m.• Oct. 17, Tommy James and The Shondells, 8 p.m.• Oct. 23, Back to the Garden, 8 p.m.• Oct. 24, 45 RPM A Tribute to the '70s AM Radio Hits, 8 p.m.• Oct. 25, Rhonda Vincent, 7:30 p.m.Tickets for both concerts are available at all Ticketmaster outlets, the Penn's Peak Box Office and Roadies Restaurant and Bar.For more information on Penn's Peak, go to
