The elementary schools in the Tamaqua Area School District will be conducting "Back to School Nights" in August.West Penn Elementary's night will be Aug. 19. From 6-8 p.m., parents will be given the opportunity to meet teachers and become familiar with the school and curriculum. Two sessions will be available for each grade: kindergarten, 6 and 7 p.m.; first grade, 6:15 and 7:15 p.m.; second grade, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.; third grade, 6 and 7 p.m.; fourth grade, 6:15 and 7:15 p.m.; fifth grade, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.Tamaqua Elementary will have its sessions from 6-9 p.m. on Aug. 20. The schedule provides two opportunities per grade for parents: kindergarten, 6 or 6:30 p.m.; first grade, 6:15 or 6:45 p.m.; second grade, 6:30 or 7 p.m.; third grade, 7:30 or 8 p.m.; fourth grade, 7:45 or 8:15 p.m.; and fifth grade, 8 or 8:30 p.m.Parents may choose either session.Fellowship nightThe Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network will hold a planning session for its Summer Celebration event. Plans will be finalized at the meeting, which will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in the library at Zion Lutheran Church, Mauch Chunk Street. Also to be discussed will be National Back to Church Sunday, which will be held on Sept. 20.The Summer Celebration will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Tamaqua Arts Center, 125 Pine St., featuring an evening of ecumenical music, messages and fellowship. Guest musicians will be the Praise Band from the Blue Mountain Community Church in Palmerton.Volunteers are needed to spread word of the event, greet patrons as they arrive the night of the event, serve complimentary ice cream after the concert and cleanup afterward.To volunteer, send an email to

Complimentary refreshments will be provided and door prizes will be awarded.St. Peter's UnionSunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church in Mantzville. This Sunday's service will include Holy Communion.
