Bridge construction planned in Monroe

More bridge construction is coming to Monroe County.

Drivers should be aware of traffic restrictions in the following areas:In Tobyhanna Township, crews will start construction on the Route 940 Bridge over Davey Run today. This bridge will be built in stages and not closed to traffic. Construction is scheduled to be complete in late February 2016.In Hamilton Township, the Rimrock Drive Bridge will close where it crosses Pocono Creek starting the week of Aug. 3. Once the closure occurs, all Rimrock Drive traffic will detour to Route 209 (East Hamilton Road) and Route 33. The work is scheduled to be complete in mid-December.In Paradise Township, the Route 314 (Club House Drive) Bridge crossing over Swiftwater Creek will close the week of Aug. 3. Once the closure occurs, all Route 314 traffic will detour to Lower Swiftwater Drive, Route 191, and Route 715. The work is scheduled to be complete at the end of October.In Chestnuthill Township the Route 715 Bridge will close where it crosses McMichaels Creek the week of Aug. 10. Once the closure occurs, all Route 715 traffic will detour to Route 115 and Effort Neola Road. The work is scheduled to be complete at the end of November.In Coolbaugh Township, crews will start construction on the Route 611 Bridge over Tobyhanna Creek the week of Aug. 17. This bridge will also be built in stages and not closed to traffic. Construction is scheduled to be complete in early March 2016.Signs alerting drivers to the coming closures have already been posted at all of the bridges. These are five of 10 bridges to be replaced in Monroe County this year. Another seven will be replaced in 2016.The bridge replacements are part of the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project, a Public-Private Partnership (P3) between PennDOT and Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners under which PWKP will finance, design, replace and maintain the bridges for 25 years.As part of PWKP, Walsh/Granite JV will oversee construction. The P3 approach will allow PennDOT to replace the bridges more quickly while achieving significant savings and minimizing impact on motorists.
