50 kilograms of Ecstasy seized

Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane announced the arrest of a Luzerne County man who was allegedly found Monday in possession of roughly 50 kilograms of Ecstasy in a clandestine laboratory within his home.

The charges against Martin John Kelly, 32, of 500 Ridge Ave., Hazle Township, were filed by the Office of Attorney General's Bureau of Narcotics Investigation.Other items seized from Kelly's residence include various glass vessels, unidentified liquids, scales, heat sources, beakers and chemicals, agents reported. Roughly $37,000 in cash also was reportedly seized from the residence.The lab was one of the largest discovered in recent memory within the state, agents said. Their investigation of the incident remains ongoing.The lab was discovered after agents with the Office of Attorney General executed a search warrant at the residence. They seized electronic items that will be analyzed as part of a separate, ongoing investigation.Kelly is charged with manufacturing a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, possession of precursor chemicals with the intent to manufacture a controlled substance and risking catastrophe. He was remanded to the Luzerne County Prison in lieu of $1 million bail after his preliminary arraignment.
