The advisory reads:
* Heat index values of around 100 degrees.
* Temperatures in the lower to mid 90s.
* IMPACTS … Excessive heat and humidity will become a danger if proper precautions are not taken.
Precautionary and preparedness actions:
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside when possible.
Reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
Heat stroke is an emergency, call 9 1 1.
Children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during hot weather when car interiors reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
Residents should check up on elderly relatives and neighbors.
Remember to provide pets with adequate water and shelter from the sun.
A heat advisory is in effect for Schuylkill County until 10 p.m.
